Frequently asked questions

What is counselling or psychotherapy?

At Lifetime, we see counselling or psychotherapy (we use these terms interchangeably at Lifetime) as a listening and holding experience where individuals have the opportunity to explore issues that may be troubling them. It usually involves meeting a therapist weekly for 50 minutes at an arranged time and place.

Who will know that I am having counselling?

The process of counselling is entirely confidential and it is your choice if you choose to tell people. All our practitioners have regular clinical supervision where they discuss their work but in a way that does not reveal the identity of their clients.

How long will I be in counselling?

That is entirely up to you. At Lifetime, we trust that our clients can determine what is best for them including how long they choose to be in therapy. In our experience, some clients come for a short time time whilst others see their therapy as an open ended process.

How much does it cost?

At Lifetime, we try to meet as many clients’ needs as possible and we realise that counselling can be an expensive process. To work with a BACP accredited therapist costs £60 per 50-minute session but we also have talented therapists and interns and can offer a range of costs depending on their experience. If you would like to work with Malachy Dunneplease enquire as to pricing and availability.

What can I expect?

When you choose to work with us you can expect a warm friendly and professional approach. We will make it clear what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. We will be open to your feedback and responsive to your needs.

What happens if I can’t make my appointment?

We ask that you give 24-hour notice if you are unable to come to your appointment. Otherwise we reserve the right to charge for short notice cancellations.
